A shot of Inspiration: The Pain of Growth

One of my favorites of all times! Enjoy!
The Pain of Growth

A man found a cocoon of a butterfly, and he brought it home. One day, a small opening appeared in the cocoon. The man sat and watched the cocoon for several hours as the butterfly struggled to force its body through that little hole. Then it seemed to stop making progress. It appeared as if the butterfly had gotten as far as it could, and it could go no farther.

The man decided to help the butterfly in its struggle. He took a pair of scissors and snipped off the remaining bit of the co coon...and the butterfly emerged easily.

As the butterfly emerged, the man was surprised. It had a swollen body and small, shriveled wings. He continued to watch the butterfly expecting that, at any moment, the wings would dry out, enlarge, and expand to support the swollen body. He knew that in time the body would contract, and the butterfly would be able to fly...but neither happened!

In fact, the butterfly spent the rest of its life crawling around with a swollen body and shriveled wings.

What the man, in his kindness and haste, did not understand was that the restricting cocoon and the struggle were required for the butterfly to be able to fly.

The butterfly must push its way through the tiny opening to force the fluid from its body and wings. Only by struggling through the opening can the butterfly's wings be ready for flight once it emerges from the cocoon.

Sometimes struggles are exactly what we need in our life. If our Higher Power allowed us to go through life without any obstacles, it would cripple us. We would not be as strong as what we could have been... and we could never fly!

Until Next time.

5 Things I learned from the Perform Better Summit!!

This past August I went to The 3 Day Functional Perform Better  Summit 2013... I had a great time, hanging with fitness professionals, learning and  just having a great time. It doesn't get much better...for me of course.
At the end of any seminar, workshop or summit I step back and think about what I learned. Of course they give  you a huge booklet with all of the presenters presentations which is great, but sometimes you can leave those events overwhelmed with new information and ideas. So I sifted through the information and began implementing some of the ideas right away.

Here is a sneak peek into some of the crazy workouts we get to do...of course I couldn't shoot the video and workout but I did participate in most of the workouts! Feel the Burn and energy!

Any how I picked 5 things that were my biggest Ah ha moments and thought I would share.

1. I am NOT normal. Well actually I knew that before I walked into the PB Summit its just confirmed now LOL! I say that only because one of the speakers said that everyone at the summit was not normal because we are the only people that go on vacation and the first thing we want to know is where the gym is in the hotel. Everyone in the room agreed that's what we all do. Hey don't judge me... I like working out, balance is the key in all things.
2.When you want to be more than just 'average' or good at something you must invest time and sometimes money.  I usually go to seminars at least 3x a year. For some reason this year I've only gotten to one so far...but the year is not up yet.  I have  come to realize that to really be "Great" at anything  you have to go where the "Great"ones are. And in my case many of the top fitness professionals present and allow us to find out how they have become so successful at these seminars.
Basically learn from the best in what ever area you want to get better at whether its fitness, business, finances, family, relationships, spiritual etc. We are not meant to do this life alone there are so many great resources and people that are willing to help us in whatever area we desire.

3.Like Energy attracts like Energy. When I walked into the Convention to get my badge and all my goodies, there was this almost tangible energy. It was a good energy of expectation, excitement and passion. You really can't put a price tag on that type of energy, its contagious and feels great!

One of the crazy workouts we did!!
Everyday since the Summit I have vowed to be that energy, that light when I walk into a room. And its not for me or my ego its actually for the people around me. Marianne Williamson  sums it up when she said "As we let our light shine we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same". And that's my mission  to let people know that they are a bright light and to not cover it up for others.  At our Fit Camp that's especially true everyone that walks through our doors has there own individual greatness that they must let shine. And my job is to uncover it:)

Hello!
4)  Learning is fun...and life long.  Some people have bought into the misconception that as soon as you are out of school you stop learning, stop reading, stop everything. It's like you learned everything in formal schooling. I believe after formal schooling is where  the real "fun"  takes place.

Now we can read about whatever topics we want and  we don't have to sit in a class for an hour and hear about obtuse angles, the periodic table, and when the tariff act took place. I'm not saying that this information isn't useful in some aspects but what about actually learning something you are passionate about.  Not going through a curriculum that someone else thinks is important to you but making up your own study. I love the quote that says "Anything that isn't growing is dying". So lets continue to grow and learn you have the power and the resources are out there.

5)I am blessed beyond my capacity to comprehend. As I was at the Summit listening to the presenters and doing the hands on workouts. I took a  few minutes and took  it all in.
I'm not sure how I became  a fitness professional it was not a life long dream. I don't know why I have had the pleasure to help so many women and men lose weight and gain a new life and self awareness. I don't know how I can be at a fitness summit and have classes  going on at the same time..oh yes I do..  I have awesome trainers that are teaching and doing a fabulous job!

I've realized I  don't have  to figure it out, my job is to be grateful and take in every moment of every day. Stop and look at your life if you have great people in your life and you doing something you love on a daily basis you are very rich and blessed. If you don't have those things in your life...you can, its your choice. Today you can move toward creating a life you want and deserve.

Well that sums up a few of my take aways from this years PB Summit. Of course I met a lot of new people, laughed alot, networked, got sweaty and learned more than I can write in one blog. Hopefully some of the things I learned you can use as well.
Untill the next time.
Until the next time!

Your Body Pledge of Allegiance

This is an Awesome Pledge that we should all have somewhere where we can see it  and read daily. Feel free to save, print and pass along.

My Body Pledge of Allegiance:

Today, I vow to start loving my body – no matter how I am feeling, how I look, and wherever I am in my journey.

I promise to stop the self- criticism, negative self-talk, and to be present in each moment to stop and acknowledge my negative thoughts, and how I am feeling. This will help me realize that almost everything my inner critic says is not true, and to change my beliefs.

I pledge to never again to participate in a barrage of bashing of myself. This includes picking myself apart when I make an error in judgment or a mistake – no matter how big or small.

I promise to begin treating my body with respect by feeding it what it needs, and taking care of it so it can function as efficiently as it can - no matter what my age.

I promise to recognize that I can only ask so much of my body, and that it deserves to sleep and rest in order to prepare for the next day, and I will honor by giving it at least 7 hours of sleep every night.

I promise not to consciously or unconsciously compare my body to others.

I promise not to be influenced by the media, or the fashion industry in what makes a woman beautiful, or the right size. I know that the media does not set the standards for beauty or my self esteem, and is there only to further their own agendas, and line their pocketbooks.

I vow that I will no longer let the scale or a certain size define me.

I promise to recognize that all body types can be beautiful - including mine.

I pledge to recognize my strengths, achievements, and attractiveness. I will affirm to myself every day that I am a wonderful just as I am in that moment.

I promise not to criticize myself, punish myself, or feel guilty when I make a mistake. I am human, not perfect; I know that my mistakes are a way to help me learn, which then helps me become stronger.

I pledge to be true to myself and others because it is who I wish to be.

I promise to stand up, and speak up for myself and others when I hear something harmful or emotionally demeaning said. We all deserve the respect and love of others.

I vow that I will remember that I deserve to love myself right here and right now – in every moment.

Today, and every day from here forward, these are my choices!

Create a great Day!

“If people refuse to look at you in a new light and they can only see you for what you were, only see you for the mistakes you've made, if they don't realize that you are not your mistakes, then they have to go.” -Steve Maraboli

I got muscle with Zumba...said no one EVER

I got muscle with Zumba … said no person ever.
Before the weekend hits, I want to set something straight:
For real results, you need to build muscle..
And to build muscle, you need to damage it during your workout, so that it can ‘re-grow’ afterwards.
Yup, damage.. stay with me. During this ‘re-grow’ after your workout.. it’s the intention to have your muscle grow back stronger and bigger.

That’s one of the main purposes of working out, aside from burning calories during the workout.
DURING your workout you’re tearing it down. When you eat & sleep you rebuild.
But you will only ‘regrow’ and rebuild your muscle if you:
  • Lift  weight (with proper form)
  • Have a complete meal within 60 min after finishing your workout (go sweet potato & Kale, both available at Trader Joes.)
  • Be nice to others. Don’t be like Justin Timberlake, only inviting 2 of the N-Sync members for his wedding with Jessica Biel, that’s just mean.
  • Drink at least half a gallon water (aim for a gallon and fail forward)
  • Get at least 7 hours sleep. No more Jay Leno. Go to bed.
  • Reduce stress to a minimum. And cut out all vampires from your life.
  • Eat clean. No more drive-throughs.
And  Stop saying things like “I want arms like that” or “I want legs like hers”. Be grateful, happy with what you have. I can guarantee you that your absolute WORST day is someone
else’s dream come true .
If you do all this properly, you will gain muscle.

(PIck one or two of the above for the week and gradually add on do not try and do all these at once...but you can be nice while doing these things)

Gaining muscle is GOOD.

When you gain muscle, you increase your metabolism throughout the day, so that your Calories OUT goes up not only during your workout, but also afterwards..
This is why I’m big-time anti-marathons(all my clients know this).Unless you’re on a bouncy treadmill, running long-distance breaks muscle down like no other.

Yeah you’ll burn calories while running, but you’ll lose muscle as well – the OPPOSITE of what you want. Big time risk of getting ‘skinny’ instead of ‘sleak and toned'.

And at LB Fit Camp all my clients know that  skinny is extinct. This year  it’s about c-shapes, strength, and legs that have ‘content’.
So you break down muscle while you workout. That’s why every workout should be 45 min max – you don’t want to damage your muscle for too long
Muscle, muscle, muscle, muscle, muscle.. muscle

To all the  ladies: I want you to read that sentence a couple times – or as many times you need to become comfortable with the term.
Muscle is good, it’s your friend. And this email serves as my retirement from telling you that muscle does not make you bulky..
In other words, this is the last time I’m saying it:
Excess bodyfat makes you look bulky. And excess calories gives you excess bodyfat.
Therefore, CALORIES make you bulky

Calories IN vs Calories OUT
Nutrition 101: If you have meatball marinara’s for lunch, you’re giving yourself too little ‘wiggle room’ for all other 5 meals you should be eating throughout the day..
and you’re very likely to overeat throughout the day.
‘Overeating’ here means that your Calories IN from waking up to bedtime exceeds your Calories OUT.
One more time:
IN more than OUT: you gain weight
IN equals OUT : you stay the same
IN less than OUT : you lose weight (provided your deficit is reasonable and not all week long, avoiding the starvation response)
See, I’m slightly fired up here – because after I spoke with a potential client about Zumba being ineffective for fat loss, I get this reply :
“Zumba is a great workout because people sweat and one of my friends lost 30 lbs while doing it”
To debunk this nonsense:

1. Sweat is not an indication of a good workout, it is your body’s way of ‘cooling you down’ when you get hot. Some people sweat more than others, and it has little to do with whether your workout is effective.

2. Anyone can lose 30 lbs by reducing their calories IN.. i.e. going on a diet. If you’re disciplined and eating 500+ calories less than what you burn off 6 days a week, you’ll lose 1 pound per week.
REGARDLESS of what exercise program you do. Your exercise program serves to increase your Calories OUT.
Therefore, weight loss is not an indication of a good workout either.
It’s your definition, inches, sizes, strength, energy, and butt that defines your workout.
Look, I must write this.
Because I want to save your day, literally.
I want to save you TIME

zumba pics photo: Zum1 Zumba1.jpg
Let me explain why I don’t like Zumba..(its nothing personal)
The #1 thing that separates the successful from everyone else is.. how.. they .. manage.. their.. time.
Everyone has the same 24 hours in the day.

What puts you ahead or holds you back, is how you spend your time. Time management is huge.
Now if you look at the Zumba workout versus a Real workout..
Zumba being aerobics & dancing, versus resistance training explosive movements, resisted/uphill running, plyometrics, anaerobics, and INTENSE cardio.

Zumba is like Spanks. It feels good at first, but in the end you haven't changed.
Resistance makes you stronger. You can’t expect to see results from Zumba, there is no resistance involved. It’s aerobics.
And “trying to lose fat with aerobics is like emptying the ocean one shot glass at a time”
Your body grows when you are uncomfortable, Your body grows when you put it through resistance, and Zumba does not provide ample resistance.
Don’t get me wrong, I appreciate Zumba for their place on the fitness ladder. Some of my good friends are Zumba instructors. Zumba is an awesome way of ‘getting started’ for girls that:
- have not worked out in 12+ years
- have one leg
In all seriousness, “something” is always better than “nothing”. And true success is not for everyone.
And one of the worst phenomena in the world is when fit people make fun of the unfit for ‘trying’.
It just hurts me to see these unfit people ‘trying’ and truly believing they are going to see real results.
It just won’t happen with aerobics. Richard Simmons never had a 6-pack.
So as a group, let’s start actually using weights ( which can include and not limited to body weight workouts) Like we do at Lena Body Fit Camp.

Not meatheads, but renegades that keep their eyes on the prize and live, eat, and breathe fat loss.
You can do it – I believe in you, and if there is anything you need just let me know.
Yup!

Im always here for ya!

LB Fit Camp Case Study #4

Hope all is well with you and your family...Here is another addition of how one of our Awesome clients at Lean Body Fit Camp is getting Awesome results...and the list keeps growing:)

Usually I do the write up about our Spotlight client. But when I asked Yen  to do a write up about doing life with Lean Body fit camp and her accomplishments, she did such a great job I just decided to leave it alone. Great job Yen keep it up the SKY IS THE LIMIT! So without further ado her is Yen:

A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.- Lao-tzu Chinese philosopher

Although this is the popular form of this quotation, a more correct translation from the original Chinese one would be "The journey of a thousand miles begins beneath one's feet." Rather than emphasizing the first step, Lau Tzu regarded action as something that arises naturally from stillness. Another potential phrasing would be "Even the longest journey must begin where you stand."

This quote was inspirational to me in relation to the experience of getting to my goal weight, getting healthier, and fit. Everyone envisions themselves at this ultimate goal, but have no idea how to start that journey or what it really entails while on that road. We know we want to get there, but let's face it; we haven't the slightest clue. If we did, don't you think we'd all be there by now? Or, start it, and realize it's definitely no easy walk in the park and stop, never reaching our full potential.

Two of the biggest keys to my continued success are a strong support group and quality professional instruction that is all included in Lean Body Fit Camp.  You need that accountability,  structure,  education, and support to guide you while making those first steps. The rest is still on you to continue and turn it into habit.  But if you get a little lost and confused along the way, the Lean Body Fit Camp team is  still there to make sure you don't give up.  If you are lucky enough to have that on your own more power to you, but if you're like me and don't ( and add to that laziness, and constant procrastination and bad eating habits)  I acknowledged that I needed all the help I could get.

Ive 30lbs lost so far, down 4 pant sizes, increased strength (hello real pushups!) stamina (me run!?) and endurance (for more than 2minutes!) and looking forward to all the shopping I'm going to be doing VERY SOON! (sorry honey I'm gonna need a bigger closet) all ignited by coming to Lean Body Fit Camp , taking the tools they taught me and using it as a road map to find my inner ME.

-Yen Huynh, 31, business owner
You can stop by and talk to Yen personally at her store:
Lee's Sandwich 4748 E. P.C.H. Long Beach

By the way if you think you are too busy Yen runs a very successful business that keeps her extremely busy, but she makes time for herself and her health first. She will not regret putting her health as a priority above all else.

You could be next all it takes is one Call  or reply to this email today and start your Free Week Trial tomorrow:-)

 Lets start here:
1.Whats the one thing holding you back from reaching your fitness goals?

2.What have you tried before that didn't give you the results you wanted?

3. How Can I help?

See ya soon!

Lean Body Fit Camp "Where Fit Happens"

Thursday, July 7, 2011

What have you done lately?

Hey Hope all is well and you are recovering from a wonderful 4th of July extended weekend!

Six days ago was July 1st, which means we were exactly 50% through the year 2011.

It's a great time to think about what you've accomplished this year, and whether you're on track to accomplish the goals (fitness or otherwise) that you wanted to achieve this year.

Of course, it's also a time when some people need to get real with what they're doing .. because the reality is, they're not any further ahead than they were 6 months ago.

Whether you like it or not, time is ticking away .. always. Time waits for no one, and it's your time to use .. or to waste.

What I like to do is a mid year personal evaluation just to see if I am on track or what I can do better and improve to make this last half of the year better. Its nothing worse than looking back in December on what you could have done. While I was thinking and evaluating I came up with 6 things that Ive learned or use since the beginning of the year. Most are not fitness related directly but I always say fitness and life go hand in hand, So here you have it:

1.I am a chronic multi-tasker to a fault.
Oop

Does anyone else have this problem? For example in writing this blog I started writing then I remembered I needed to text my client, get the clothes out the washer, respond to an email and plan my excursion for tomorrow. So what should have taken me 30 minutes to write and send to you has now taken an hour or more. I'm so glad that I'm re-evaluating myself at the halfway point of the year. I will conquer my chronic multi tasking !! I will, I will, as soon as I download a few more songs from itunes LOL! But really Im getting better because I am aware of the problem and I know by limiting this behavior I will save a bunch of time. I'll keep you posted on my progress.

2. If you are passionate about something GO for it, relentlessly and stop at nothing to get it.

Obviously I'm not saying do illegal or immoral things. But if your heart is in the right place and your motives are good, dont let anyone or yourself tell you different. It's worth going for even when it seems like there is no way it will ever happen... Dont give up! This encompasses relationships, goals fitness or business, habits, dreams whatever it is. I could tell you several stories over the past few months some about Lean Body Fit Camp and how we went from throwing a small Special Event workout with a few of our clients to a 50+ all out Workout Spectacular this pass June. It was GREAT! Or how I have taken some of my best relationships for granted and realized how special they are to me, and I'm willing to do whatever I need to repair the relationships because its worth the effort and sweat. Regardless of the situation Never Never give up..keep going even if its just a baby step a day.

3.My nephew is more like me than I thought.  My nephew is 10 and we are just alike. Ill have to admit he is a pretty cool kid , that has it together for being ten. I guess the apple doesn't fall too far from the tree:) We spent the weekend together with his brother my other nephew and in watching him I see me. He kinda does his own thing regardless of what people say. He is very funny and just has his own style. We both like to be silly, have fun, like to make people laugh and we like to help people. We shall call him...Mini C!!

the kid in the glasses with the half mohawk thats Devin (aka Mini C), then we have Mr. Cool Dominic in the back and my cousin Taylor getting ready to get into a bubble on the water..

4.Less is MOre. Ive heard this all my life and I never got it. If you have less of something how can you have more of it? Im learning the less stuff you have in your life the less stuffed you are. The less people I have causing drama and negativity the More peace I have. The less material stuff I have the More room on my credit card I have to take a last minute get a way. The less clutter I have in my house the More creative I am. What I am going to do more of is simplify, sometimes I make things more complicated. Im going to keep it simple, and have less things and more quality moments and relationships.

5. Having great people around you and on your Team is Priceless. And makes life fun! So let them know as often as possible. I realized there are great people in the world just waiting to help me, (and you)not just in my business but in life. I was going to start giving shout outs to all those people that are apart of my family, the LB Fit Camp family and my awesome friends. But I realized it would be too many people. You all know who you are, I am grateful whether I've known you for a day, a month, years or we haven't talked in a while. I want to say thank you for your love and support. And as the year goes on I plan on returning the love 100 times over and giving back more of myself.

6. Quotes fire me up!!I already knew this but wanted to share with you. Everyone knows I'm a big quote person. In class we do a quote or reflection almost daily. I have a few I keep posted around my house and office that I read everyday. Enjoy and I hope they inspire you to keep on keeping on!

Self- Determination
“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.” MARIANNE WILLIAMSON

Friendship/Love

"In everyone'ss life, at some time our inner fire goes out. It is then burst into flames by an encounter with another human being. We should all be thankful for those people who rekindle the inner spirit"- Albert Schweitzer

Winning Mindset

"The Greatest accomplishment is not in never falling, but in rising after you fall".- Vince Lombardi

"The difference between a successful person and others is not a lack of strength, not a lack of knowledge, but rather in a lack of will."- Vince Lombardi

"Courage is fear holding on a minute longer". G. Patton

"Be more concerned with your character than your reputation, because your character is what you really are, while your reputation is merely what others thing you are". John Wooden

Would love to hear what you have learned or what you will be focusing on in the next half of the year. Lets make it a Great One!!

Finish Strong!!
